A new mother rarely sleeps through the night when a crying infant needs her. According to a recent study 43% of mothers get 5 to 6 hours of sleep each night, while 24% of mothers get just 3 to 4 hours, and 14% of lucky moms manage 7 to 8 hours.

Although she founded the celebration, Anna Jarvis later became resentful of the commercialization of the holiday. By the early 1920s, Hallmark and other companies had started selling Mother's Day cards, and Jarvis believed they were exploiting the idea of Mother's Day. She thought the emphasis of the holiday should be on sentiment rather than profit, with people expressing their love and gratitude through handwritten letters instead of buying pre-made cards.

In France, amidst alarm at the low birth rate, there were attempts made at the beginning of the 20th century to create a national celebration honoring the mothers of large families. In 1906 ten mothers who had nine children each were given an award recognizing "High Maternal Merit" ("Haut mérite maternel").

It's no surprise that everyone calls their mom to wish them a happy Mother's Day. These yearly chats cause phone traffic to spike as much as 37 percent from an average Sunday.

In 2019, a 74-year-old woman from southern India gave birth via cesarean section to her first children, twin girls. Mangayamma Yaramati opted for in vitro fertilization after years of being unable to conceive, reported the Times of India. Despite their mother's advanced age, both infants were born healthy with no complications.
