Charles Perrault laid the foundations for a new literary genre: the fairy tale. His best known tales include Le Petit Chaperon Rouge (Little Red Riding Hood), Cendrillon (Cinderella), Le Chat Botté (Puss in Boots), and La Belle au bois Dormant (The Sleeping Beauty).
Unlike most Disney villains, who sport fiery personalities and desire power and the spotlight, Lady Tremaine possesses a more cunning, subtle, passive-aggressive personality with a shrewd intelligence and ability for manipulation, particularly towards her daughters.
Cinderella finds a gown that belonged to her mother and decides to refashion it for the ball, but her stepfamily interferes by giving her extra chores.
CINDERELLA: [to the clocktower chiming] Oh, that clock! Old killjoy. I hear you. "Come on, get up," you say, "Time to start another day." Even he orders me around.
Lady Tremaine answers the door herself and introduces her daughters Drizella and Anastasia, with no mention of Cinderella.

The Fairy Godmother sings this song as she transforms an orange pumpkin into Cinderella's carriage.
