Luisa suggests that Mirabel visit Bruno's old room in a forbidden tower in the Casita, recalling that he once had a vision about the family's magic. Mirabel enters to find that it is a giant sand-filled cave and discovers a vision that shows her standing in front of a broken Casita. She assumes it means that she will destroy the family.
Mirabel discovers a hidden passage in the walls behind a painting and chases a cloaked figure who turns out to be Bruno. He never actually left and instead hid within the walls to remain close to his family.
During his ten years of isolation within the walls of Casa Madrigal, Bruno developed two alternate identities: "Hernando" who is scared of nothing and "Jorge" who makes spackle to patch cracks in the wall.
Bruno's vision starts the same as before, but Mirabel notices a golden butterfly. They follow it and it eventually leads to them finding a solution that involves Mirabel hugging it out with Isabela.
Mirabel discovers that Isabela feels burdened by being perfect and that she doesn't want to marry Mariano and is only doing it for the family. Together, they sing "What Else Can I Do?" and Isabela embraces her true self by making more wild, exotic, and carnivorous plants and both sisters forgive each other. But Abuela discovers what has happened and accuses Mirabel of hurting their family out of spite for not having a gift.
She strokes her braid and repeatedly mutters "clear skies".
