Flounder is the only character to give unconditional support for Ariel's fascination with human things. At one point, he gives Ariel a statue of Prince Eric as a gift.

When King Triton learns that Ariel has had contact with humans, he destroys her prized collection in a rage.

Ariel considers Scuttle an expert on human objects and often consults him about items she has salvaged, though his identifications consist of nonsense. He wrongly names a fork a "dinglehopper" and a smoking pipe a "snarfblatt".

The role of King Triton was originally offered to Patrick Stewart who could not make it so due to a filming conflict with Star Trek: The Next Generation. Instead, the part went to Kenneth Mars.

Just as Ariel and Eric are about to kiss, Ursula's eels, Flotsam and Jetsam, tip the boat over.

Near the beginning of the movie, dolphins pull the king's chariot as he enters for the concert. Sebastian's chariot, on the other hand, is pulled by what appear to be goldfish.

Since she has no human clothes, Scuttle wraps her in a sail and tries to make it look like a dress.

Ursula, disguised as Vanessa, arrives and uses Ariel's voice to enchant Eric into marrying her.

She is the seventh daughter of King Triton and Queen Athena.
