Following Rey's departure, Luke returns to the Tree library with a torch, intending to destroy the ancient Jedi texts. But he is interrupted by the Force spirit of Yoda. As Luke hesitates, Yoda himself summons a thunderbolt to destroy the library. Watching the tree burn, Luke says that it's time for the Jedi to end. Yoda counters that it's time to look past "old books."

Realizing that Holdo plans to abandon the Raddus, Poe not only denounces her as a coward and a traitor, but instigates a mutiny, apprehending Holdo and her command staff as he takes control of the ship.

Holdo volunteers to stay behind and pilot the cruiser, sacrificing herself so that the others can escape. Leia is reluctant to accept any more losses, especially the loss of another good friend, but Holdo consoles her saying, "May the Force be with you."

Snoke orders Kylo Ren to kill Rey. Believing he can read Ren's mind, Snoke is jubilant and mocks Rey. But Kylo uses the Force to activate Luke's lightsaber, impaling Snoke and killing him instantly.

Before Finn can complete his suicide mission, Rose knocks his ski speeder off course, saving him from certain death.

Following the vulptices, a fox-like species of canids with a coat of crystaline bristles, Finn and the Resistance encounter a pile of rocks which the vulptices are able to slip through, but which is too small for them. Outside, Rey discovers the pile of rocks and uses the Force to lift them, allowing the Resistance fighters stream out.

Finn opens a drawer on the Falcon to get a blanket for the gravely injured Rose, revealing briefly that Rey stole all of the sacred texts from the Jedi library and Yoda did not destroy them after all.
