On July 22, 2007, following a performance at the Beacon Theatre in New York City, Wayne and another man were caught smoking marijuana near a tour bus. After taking Wayne into custody, police discovered a .40 caliber pistol near his person. The gun, which was registered to his manager, was in a bag located near the rapper. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon.

During an ESPN interview, he said that skateboarding is very therapeutic for him because it forces him to clear his head. He said that the feeling he gets when he finally lands a new trick is almost as satisfying as winning a Grammy Award.
