The Cesky Terrier is a small terrier type dog originating in Czechoslovakia.

The Clumber Spaniel is the largest of the spaniels. Its name is taken from Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire where the breed was first developed.

While serving as the minister to France (1784-89), Thomas Jefferson became aware of the writings of Georges-Louis Leclerc, the French naturalist who wrote that the Briard sheepdog was the finest dog he knew because of its intelligence and fine character. Jefferson searched for a dog of this breed and bought one which he named Buzzy. During the ocean voyage back to the United States, Buzzy gave birth to two pups, so Jefferson arrived with not one but three Briards. This was the beginning of what is known as the Briard Bergere line in the United States.

President Barack Obama and his family were given Bo as a gift after months of speculation about the breed and identity of their future pet. The final choice was made in part because President Obama's daughters were allergic and needed a hypoallergenic breed.

Despite its name, the Black Russian Terrier is not a true terrier: it is believed that about seventeen breeds were used in its development, including the Airedale, the Giant Schnauzer, the Rottweiler, the Newfoundland, the Caucasian Ovtcharka and other breeds.

The Havanese, a breed of Bichon type, is the national dog of Cuba, developed from the now extinct Blanquito de la Habana ("little white dog of Havana").

Descended from dogs brought to Russia from central Asian countries, the borzoi is also known as the "Stilt Beagle". It is similar in shape to a greyhound, and is also a member of the sighthound family.

Whippets were originally greyhounds that were deemed unsuitable for hunting because of their size. The fastest accelerating dog in the world, they are popular in dog racing and can even challenge greyhounds for top speed.

Shortly after the resolution of the Cuban Missile Crisis, Khrushchev arrived at the White House with a little white dog named Pushinka (meaning "fluffy" in Russian). She came with a passport that identified her as a "nonbreed" but specified that her mother was Strelka, the first dog sent into space by the Russians. Pushinka was an instant hit with the Kennedy family but because of the Cold War, Pushinka was taken to Walter Reed Army Medical Center to be examined before she was permitted to settle into her new home. Officials wanted to be certain the dog was not bugged with any hidden listening devices, microphones, bombs, or germs.

The Phu Quoc Ridgeback is the smallest of the three ridgeback breeds which have a ridge of hair that runs along their backs in the opposite direction from the rest of the coat (the others are Rhodesian Ridgeback and Thai Ridgeback).
