The 1995 NBA Finals pitted the Orlando Magic against the defending champion Houston Rockets. The pre-series hype centered on the clash of two dominating centers: Shaquille O'Neal of the Magic and Hakeem Olajuwon of the Rockets, but the more experienced Rockets swept the Magic 4-0, winning their second consecutive NBA Championship.
In 2002-03, Tracy McGrady won his first scoring title with a franchise-record 2,407 points. ESPN would later rank his season as one of the best ever for a perimeter player.
In 2008-09, Hedo Türkoğlu helped the Magic reach the NBA Finals for the first time since 1995 and led the Magic with 18.0 points per game in the Finals, but he didn't join teammates Dwight Howard, Rashard Lewis, and Jameer Nelson in the All-Star game.
After acquiring Grant Hill in a sign-and-trade deal on August 3, 2000, the Magic hoped he would team up with budding superstar Tracy McGrady to return Orlando to NBA elite status. But Hill was hampered by ankle injuries, playing in only 4 games in his first season with the Magic, 14 games in his second, 29 in his third, and 0 in his fourth.
During the 2016-17 season, point guard Elfrid Payton recorded a franchise-record five triple-doubles.
Orlando selected Chris Webber, but traded him to the Golden State Warriors for the number three pick, guard Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway and three future first-round draft picks.
In 1995-96, Dennis Scott set a franchise single-season record with 267 three-pointers. He also set a then-NBA record with 11 three-pointers in a single game on April 18, 1996. On his record-breaking shot, the assist came from teammate and the holder of the record, Brian Shaw, who made 10 three-pointers on April 8, 1993.
Dwight Howard led the NBA in rebounding five times, including the 2007-08 season when the 22-year-old averaged 14.2 rebounds per game.
The 2009 NBA Finals was nicknamed the "Disney Series" for its connections to The Walt Disney Company. Walt Disney World is located 20 miles (32 km) from Orlando in nearby Lake Buena Vista, and Disneyland is located 30 miles (48 km) from Los Angeles in nearby Anaheim.
