In the team's first official NBA game, Ed Pinckney won the franchise's opening tip-off against the New Jersey Nets, and Alvin Robertson hit a three-pointer to give the Raptors an early 3-0 lead.
In the deciding Game 7, Kawhi Leonard hit a shot from the corner at the buzzer that bounced off the rim four times before falling to give the Raptors a 92-90 victory over the 76ers to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. He finished the game with 41 points on 16-of-39 shooting. This was the first Game 7 buzzer beater in NBA history and caused the normally calm Leonard to let out a victorious scream as he was swarmed by his teammates.
While at Toronto, Chris Bosh became a five-time NBA All-Star and supplanted former fan favorite Vince Carter as the face and leader of the Raptors franchise. In the 2006-07 season, Bosh led the Raptors to their first playoff appearance in five years and their first-ever division title.
In 2018, Dwane Casey's Raptors set franchise records for wins and points in the regular season as they finished first in the Eastern Conference. In the playoffs, the Raptors defeated the Washington Wizards in six games and were then swept in four games by the Cleveland Cavaliers led by LeBron James. On May 11, 2018, Casey was fired. The following month, he was named the NBA Coach of the Year.
Selected with the 7th overall pick by Toronto in the 1995 NBA draft, Stoudamire would have a noteworthy rookie season with the Raptors, averaging 19 points per game and winning the 1995-96 NBA Rookie of the Year Award. He earned the nickname "Mighty Mouse" because of his height (5' 10") and the Mighty Mouse tattoo on his right arm.
DeMar DeRozan spent nine seasons with the Raptors and racked up 13,296 points before being traded to the Spurs in the summer of 2018.
In 1997-98, Marcus Camby led the league in blocked shots with 3.7 per game, for a total of 230.
