Sean Connery plays the role of James Bond for the seventh and final time, marking his return to the character 12 years after Diamonds Are Forever. The film's title is a reference to Connery's reported declaration in 1971 that he would "never again" play that role. As Connery was 52 at the time of filming, although nearly three years younger than incumbent Bond Roger Moore, the storyline features an aging Bond, who is brought back into action to investigate the theft of two nuclear weapons by SPECTRE.
M: Too many free radicals, that's your problem.
BOND: Free radicals, sir?
M: Yes, they're toxins that destroy the body and the brain. 'Caused by eating too much red meat and white bread. And too many dry martinis.
BOND: Then I shall cut out the white bread, sir.
Maximilian Largo, or "Number One", is the supreme commander of the organization's latest and grandest extortion exercise dubbed The Tears of Allah.
"Never Say Never Again" was performed by Lani Hall after Bonnie Tyler, who disliked the song, reluctantly declined.
Petachi has undergone an operation to alter one of his retinas to match the retinal pattern of the American President.
NUMBER 12: Jack's been smoking again. Jack was ordered not to smoke. Smoking is dirty. It gets in Jack's eye. Jack must do as he's told if he wants his fast cars and his pretty clothes.
During a painful back-cracking session with his physiotherapist, Patricia Fearing, Bond suggests: "You know, there is a more beneficial therapy for a man's lower back." That evening, she shows up at his private room and offers to explore this alternative therapy.
Under the mattress, Bond discovers cigarettes and a matchbook with a yellow-flags-on-black logo which he eventually traces to Romanian philanthropist Maximillian Largo.
As Lippe pursues him through the health farm, Bond finds himself in the clinic's samples laboratory and grabs a beaker of fluid (which turns out to be Bond's own urine sample) and throws its contents into his assailant's face. Lippe, seemingly blinded, stumbles backwards and collapses on a shelf of flasks, impaling himself on the broken shards of glass.
