A Commander of Naval Intelligence during World War II, Ian Fleming (1908-1964) used his real-life experience to pen twelve British spy novels and two collections of short stories featuring secret agent 007, a.k.a. James Bond.
Adapted from Fleming's novel of the same name, Dr. No (1962) featured Sean Connery as secret agent 007 and would be the first in a long line of successful Bond flicks. Connery would reprise his role in five more films, for a total of six appearances as James Bond. According to some reports, he turned down a then unheard of sum of $5.5 Million to appear in a seventh film.
"Live and Let Die" by Paul McCartney and the Wings was the first James Bond theme to appear on the Billboard Top Ten, where it peaked at #2.
At the end of Moonraker, Jaws escapes from Drax's disintegrating space station in an escape pod with his girlfriend Dolly. They open a bottle of champagne, and Jaws speaks his only line in the entire franchise: "Well, here's to us."
Honey Ryder emerging from the ocean in a white bikini with her hunting knife, taking off her diving mask and singing "Underneath the Mango Tree" as the sun shines on her wet blonde hair, is considered a classic James Bond moment and is one of the most popular scenes in cinematic history.
A View to a Kill (1985) features Walken as Max Zorin, a madman who hopes to gain a monopoly on the microchip market by destroying California's Silicon Valley. The film also stars Stacey Sutton and Grace Jones and was the last Bond film to feature Roger Moore as 007.
As soon as James is left alone with the alluring Miss Caruso, he uses the magnetic watch to unzip her dress.
