Elektra King is overseeing the construction of a new segment of her family's oil pipeline. During a tour of the pipeline's proposed route through the mountains, Bond and Elektra are attacked by a hit squad in armed, paraglider-equipped snowmobiles. Despite being unarmed, Bond is able to dispatch the snowmobiles by using the terrain to his advantage and a protective shield in his jacket.
In Valentin Zukovsky's casino, Bond wears a special pair of Q-branch sunglasses with X-Ray features that enable him to check for concealed weapons, as well as peek under a few dresses.
A seemingly loyal servant to Zukovsky, Mr. Bullion ultimately double-crosses his boss by working for Elektra King.
Christmas Jones is an American nuclear physicist working in Russia to dismantle nuclear warheads, reducing the Russian inventory in line with treaty obligations. On their initial encounter Jones treats Bond with a combination of mistrust and mild contempt, pre-empting a discussion of her unusual forename with a warning not to bother with any Christmas jokes.
Bond's Omega-branded watch has the ability to shoot a grappling hook, which allows him to escape from a blast pit at the decommissioning silo in Kazakhstan.
During a tense confrontation, Bond demands that Elektra call off Renard in the nuclear submarine. She taunts him, believing that he's incapable of killing her, and tells him that he would miss her. Then she yells through a two-way radio for Renard to proceed with the plan. Enraged, Bond shoots her, saying "I never miss."
