On the final hand, one player has a flush, while another has a full house. Le Chiffre has a higher full house and is about to claim the entire pot when Bond reveals his straight flush to win the game.

BOND: You know, I think I'll call that a Vesper.
VESPER: Because of the bitter aftertaste?
BOND: No. Because once you've tried it, that's all you want to drink.

BOND: I've figured out what that is. It's an Algerian Love Knot.
VESPER: Really? I thought it was just something pretty.
BOND: No you didn't. Someone gave it to you. He's a very lucky man.

As Le Chiffre tortures 007, gunshots are heard nearby. When Mr. White enters the room, Le Chiffre begs for his life, promising to make good on the money he owes. "Money isn't as valuable to our organization as knowing who to trust", Mr White says and puts a bullet through Le Chiffre's forehead.

Bond resigns from the service to sail away with Vesper. In Venice, Vesper leaves Bond alone while she goes to withdraw funds for the trip. Meanwhile, M phones 007 the inquire about the missing money which still hasn't been returned to the British government, tipping Bond off that Vesper has been using him all along.

Bond follows Vesper to an old building that is being renovated on the waterfront. A gunfight ensues between Bond and the men Vesper is meeting. Bond shoots and ruptures the flotation bags that hold the building above water-level and as it begins to sink, Vesper is trapped in an old elevator and drowns. Bond recovers her body but is unable to revive her.

M: She had a boyfriend. A French Algerian. They were very much in love. He was kidnapped by the organization behind Le Chiffre, and they blackmailed her, threatening to kill him unless she cooperated. We should have picked up on it, but sometimes we're so focused on our enemies, we forget to watch our friends.

Vesper purposely leaves her phone behind. Among her contacts, Bond finds a phone number for Mr. White who he tracks down at an estate in Lake Como, shooting him in the leg and introducing himself: "The name's Bond. James Bond."
